From this article:

"Industry safety experts estimate vehicles once performing at a level earning the highest 5-star rating would receive a 3-star assessment under the new testing, and safety continues to be a key differentiator for auto makers on the dealership floor."

Kathleen - in the financial section I will be proposing a 20% increase in GM's R&D spending.  Annually that amount is around $8 billion so the increase would be $1.6 annually. I will also discuss the advantages of GM using equity investments (GM Ventures) in other companies doing research as a less risky way of achieving strides in innovations/improvements versus doing their own R&D. So I think they should also increase the amount of money dedicated to GM Ventures as well as increasing their own efforts.
